We have some leased cattle on the ranch. Joe, their owner has been a cattleman pretty much his whole life. He is a wealth of knowledge and an absolute gem.
I love food. Eating it, cooking it, taking pictures of it and traveling to experience new versions of it.
For me food is a creative outlet. I wish I could paint or sculpt but it’s just not in the cards for me. I can however cook. It’s sort of my blank canvas. We live out in the boonies in an old ranch house and Flo is my 1940 Norge stove. The grocery store is at least a three hour expedition. So here in Flo’s kitchen, necessity really is the mother of a lot of cooking inventions . I look in the freezer and the pantry and go from there. When things turn out really well it is such a kick. So, mainly this blog is chronology of my adventures with Flo. I will pass on the recipes for the best and some of the pitfalls just because they are entertaining.
Along with my vintage stove, I also love vintage housewares. There is nothing like cooking with a well seasoned old cast iron skillet. I enjoy the stories behind their manufacture and appreciate the qualities that have allowed them to stand the test of time. I’ll share some of my favorites and why I find them so charming.
